Air Purifiers: Sore Throat

Just about everybody has suffered from a sore throat at some time or another. Whether its due to allergies, a viral infection, bacteria, or some other sickness, a sore throat can be more than just painful; it can be annoying as well. Sore throats interfere with our ability to talk, making phone conversations and day-to-day business a challenge. Then, at night, symptoms tend to worsen and interfere with our sleep patterns.

So what relief is out there for sore throat victims? Topical treatments such as lozenges can help moisten dry and itchy throats, but this is not a long-term solution. The cold symptoms that usually accompany sore throats tend to diminish as the virus runs its course, which means patience is, regrettably, often the only effective solution. Still, some people swear by their vaporizers, which also help keep breathing passages lubricated and clear during sleep.

More Details about Sore Throats
One remedy that absolutely shouldnt be sought is antibiotics, at least not without the close supervision of a doctor. Because the bulk of sore throats are spurred by viruses, antibiotics are rendered useless against them. This doesnt mean that a culture isnt necessary, though. Oftentimes a sore throat is in league with fever, swollen glands, respiratory difficulty, and a host of other familiar signs. It may turn out that strep throat is the diagnosis, in which case a course of antibiotics may be necessary.

On the more benign end of the spectrum, sore throats may herald nothing more than seasonal allergies. If this turns out to be the case, air filters and humidifiers can have a noticeable impact. By keeping the air free of bugs and mites, they can help provide allergy relief to the perennially afflicted.
